Came the rain
by ~cesium356Tonight comes the rain.
The first rain since. Since a long time.
Gentle rain, showering deep into the dark distance
Not this the hard rains of winter, sure as days to follow.
This is the first water of Fall, simply falling water rain.
Above the clouds shines the moon,
But tonight the cool light is needed not
Given water from night sky
Plays a song, reciting a drumming tone poem
Against the roof, the rail, the deck, the leaves, the soil, the rock.
Air purged of dust pulled deep in.
Cleansing within as cleasing without.
The rain falls silent until
Water kisses the earth in a whisper.
The earth gives back
I give back
A sigh.
Now comes the rain.
Rain down from dark, appears out of nothing
Bounces off hard ground.
Dry, it was dry but now mist makes dry eyes open.
Weeks and weeks of sun-baking. Sun seared soil finally relents.
The water plays its way, drops gather to rivulets, join to puddles,
sigh and soak through the top of the whole earth.
Comes the rain, a slow rain, falling below ground.
